If you liked it, or hated it...

There are ways to let others know your feelings about "The Bet." You can go to any one (or more) of the following outlets for your thoughts. And believe me, I'm not going to whine if I see a post that says, "That movie was teh sux0r, wasup wit the Pupptz?" I know they are doofs. If I see one that says, "The film felt a bit preachy at the point where the one guy says, 'Never knew the news would be a rerun,' which I thought was out of place." Okay. I can deal with that. If you didn't get it, fine. If you hated it, fine. I can deal. So... please go and share your thoughts (and needless to say, seeing something like "Teh direction wuz teh roxx0r!!1!" will be loved regardless. heh. I'm shallow like that).

Remember, if you liked it, it'll help convince others to buy it. If you hated it, others won't.

I would kill to have Tyler Stout design my next tattoo (or more)

Click to make bigger!

If you said "Tyler Who?" you are forgiven because I only just recently (about 10 minutes ago) discovered him and fell in love. The line work is just so... amazing. I hate that Quentin Tarantino tapped him for all those QTFest posters (and hate him more for having his OWN FESTIVALS!!!). Damn my unfamousness!

I just know that his art style would translate so amazingly to a tattoo (even though my tattoo god has moved to France - fucker! - no one has done it quite like he has. Luc Zietek COME BACK!!!!). Man am I jonesing for new ink.

It's like Mike Mignola (whom I love) fucked an Etch-A-Sketch and their love child went to a few too many concerts at a young age. Well, whatever, I'd do just about ANYTHING to get him to do something for a tattoo. Damn I need some new ink. Maybe Detox should be about a guy who can't afford a new tattoo and goes crazy. Yeah. Ink withdrawal. Ooh, the needles and the sounds and that gentle scratching itchy feeling as the needles inject the ink beneath the skin. Is it wrong to love it?

Go to his SITE. Love it. Buy it. Convince him to help me.

Review: "Headscrew of a Short Film"

Soiled Sinema has reviewed "The Bet," calling it "Abstract and Beautiful."

Soiled Sinema was one of the sites I mentioned previously to whom I'd submitted a screener and said to check them out before I hated them for giving the film a bad review. Well, worry not.
"The Bet" unfolds like a magnificent eclipse of the cinematic kind. Wonderful and abrasive, director Michael Dunn ensures that you will be entertained and be thinking in a wider manner. If you are looking for a headscrew of a short film, look no further. "The Bet" does in its under 20-minute runtime, what "art-house" filmmakers have been trying to do for decades. The film is an entirely open film, perfect for discussion and analysis.
Click the link above to read the full review. And check out the rest of their site while you're there.

Kinda cool

I know Target's online store has connections with Amazon, hence the inclusion of "The Bet" at target.com, but it's still pretty freakin' awesome that if you go to Target's site and search for me (or anyone else in the film), the DVD's gonna pop up.

EDIT: What's also interesting is that there are three other outlets that are pulling from Amazon (the way all the foreign sites pulled from IMDb), and each of the outlets seem to focus on one of the actors. One is The Bet/Walt, one is The Bet/Drew and one is The Bet/Mat (no last names, mind you). Funny how the engines pick which name to use.

DETOX draft 4 underway

After getting some constructive feedback from Kurt Rauf and my being absolutely insane to get back into it, I got back into conversations with Chris Smith about the Detox script. Kurt's comments were, basically, the central story of a woman being detoxed by her partially insane ex-boyfriend was really good. What lacked was the framework that put them in that situation. And I had to agree.

So after I brainstormed six possible "frameworks," Chris and I met for lunch on Thursday and he had a great way to start the film, to set up the story, and I, about halfway through lunch, almost jumped out of my seat when the lightbulb kicked on and an awesome ending popped into my head. A little thought on both and I'm headed down the path of getting draft 4 keyed in.

It became simpler, while becoming more complex. And darker despite it's levity.

I'm excited about it and like where it's going. I just wish I had the time to really sit down and explore it and get it written out.

Before I change my mind...

Two places I've sent "The Bet" for review are absolutely amazing blogs. The first is Soiled Sinema. He's very cynical and opinionated, but that's why I was happy to send "The Bet." If he likes it (and some of the films he likes, I love), I'll be happy. If he hates it, I'll chalk it up to his cynicism. Either way, I can't wait to hear what he says.

The second is Twitch which has great date headers (yes, I'm a design dork) and some obscure films (mostly Asian) that look amazing (and have been added to my Netflix queue).

I'm plugging these guys now, cos if they hate "The Bet," I may not want to (I'm a shallow shit like that) but they should be. Check 'em out.

I hate Eli Roth. But...

I do have to appreciate some of the stuff he does. Things I've fantasized about doing since I was ten. So, check out this MySpace Bulletin. You have to log into MySpace to see it. For those who don't have MySpace accounts or don't want to log in, here's the gist:
The owner of the [New Beverly Cinema] died very suddenly last fall, and Edgar Wright, myself, and a few other directors volunteered to program 2 weeks each to help keep the cinema alive. Many of these films are not on DVD (or are heavily edited) and are rarely, if ever, screened publicly. Also if you are a blogger if you could mention the festival it would really help the theater out. Between the Silent Movie Theater and the New Beverly Cinema there's an amazing revival scene happening in Los Angeles and we want as many fans as possible to know there's an alternative to the multiplex every night of the week.

Eli Roth sucks

I don't like his films. I don't like him. He's an asstard. A pretentious fuck wipe. There's maybe jealousy or envy, but only because he made a crap film and another crap film, oh, and another really crap film and whined when it bombed, and people still know who he is. Fewer people know who Uwe Boll is and he's maybe slightly more talented or at least less douchebaggy. At least Uwe Boll never showed up in guyliner and a fake penis. Really?!? And Uwe Boll's not icky enough to parade himself on the shitty "On the Lot." Uwe Boll invites his critics to box. Eli Roth... um, he sucks. I just don't like the way he presents himself nor do I like his films. Hitchcock did what Roth attempts to do with class. Imagine Kubrick posing with a fake penis. Hell, I'd do it for real if I become famous. Fuck the prosthetics (nicely done by KNB), I'll bare it all if I become famous. I have nothing to hide. Most of all my talent.

Psycho...

May become my #2 favourite film of all time... beating out Blair Witch Project. Which after all the spoofs, why isn't there a Bel Air Witch Project?

I hate sports

But hear me out. Today is SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!!!!!!!!!!!! and as much as I couldn't give a fuck (or even know who's playing), I have often wondered what people (and by "people," I mean "men") would talk about if there were no sports. Imagine the office party and no one could say "So, can you believe the Patriots made it to the Super Bowl?" then list statistics and plays and players and all the cal.

I wonder. My son is a sports fool (and I say that lovingly) and I have to admit I don't quite understand his obsessive card collecting and statistic logging he does when he really should be trying to go to sleep. But, being a fairly loving dad, I tried (yes, actually tried) to understand. And I realised he logs home runs the way I (in my stinky teens) logged kills by Jason in the Friday the 13th films. His card collecting is no different than the Star Wars (specifically The Empire Strikes Back) card collecting (there was gum back then) I did when I was ten.

What I'm getting at is that I'd love to see a world where sports was replaced by film. Where teams were replaced by genres. Where the Jeters and Jordans were replaced by Scorseseseses and Lynches. Where home runs were replaced by box office. RBI's by ROI's. Fantasy Football by Fantasy Mogul.

Mike Myers + Deepak Chopra

Not a huge fan of the series in general, but I was captivated with this one.

The Rubbersquare Forum

Still very much new (so don't expect a ton of content off the bat) is the Rubbersquare Forum. I tried this once before and it was inundated by spammers to the point where I had to close the thing down. I'm gonna try it out again and hopefully it'll work out. You can go, sign up and talk about any number of things, likes "The Bet," the short stories (soon to be published) or just get to know each other.

Have your wondered what the red square meant? Wonder what Mat Planet is up to with Donnie? What's next for the filmmakers? Discuss it all in the forums.

Coming soon...

So, I'm this close to getting the collection of short stories and poems ready for sale. This is my first publish-on-demand endeavor, but seeing the quality of their products, I was amazed. So I decided to collect most of my short stories and poems, including "The Bet" and lay them out in an awesome paperback back. It'll be just over 8" x 5" and will be totally cool. There's over 30 short stories and poems and (at last count) over 240 pages. It'll be great so stayed tuned here for updates on when it'll be ready to buy - hopefully in about 2 weeks. Oh, about the "buying" part, I'm looking at about $16 or so per copy... totally worth it.

By the way, the above cover art is not final and may change, so if you wanna bitch or comment, do it now before it does become final.
